10 Years ago a need was identified for a game (farm) lodge development in the Oudtshoorn area as no other existed. It was decided that the strategic route between Oudtshoorn and the Cango Caves would be the ideal and approached farmers in that area. The farm Buffelsdrift, 6,5 km from Oudtshoorn, which borders the tar road on the route to the Cango Caves, was obtained. To finance this venture, 11 shareholders have been included.
After one year of construction and building, the lodge was officially opened on 1 October 2005. With excessive marketing internationally as well as locally, Buffelsdrift became one of the icons of Oudtshoorn.
Andries van Schalkwyk, Managing Director, uses the phrase “Om die regte ding, op die regte tyd, briljant te doen” to run Buffelsdrift with the help of management and staff to make the lodge as successful as it is today.
The Big 10 was celebrated on 8 October 2015 saying thank you and congratulations to the Directors and Staff for making Buffelsdrift a home away from home and one of the top game lodges in the Southern Cape/Karoo. The festivities were kicked of with Andries van Schalkwyk giving a heartwarming welcome on how Buffelsdrift Game Lodge started, followed by a slide show presentation showing from day one how Buffelsdrift developed over the past 10 years of existence. Thereafter, gigantic smiles appeared for the cutting of the Big 10 Cake.
Buffelsdrift Game Lodge is proud of its achievements and the next 10 years is accepted as a challenge to keep on growing and become even more successful.
