Beyond Safari: Amazing things to do at Buffelsdrift Game Lodge.

Buffelsdrift Game Lodge is proud to bring you the very best of an authentic South African Game lodge, but we’re not just about ‘safari chic’, open game drive vehicles, and amazing wildlife, either. There’s so much fun and adventure to be had at the lodge that your only difficulty will be deciding what to do first! Here’s a little peek at some of the fun waiting here just for you.

  1. Authentic African safari

Of course, no one comes to a Karoo game lodge and doesn’t take a safari (or two, or three)! No African bush experience would be complete without drinking in the excitement and beauty of the wild bush at its best. Here at Buffelsdrift, we offer dusk and dawn trips, and our entertaining and knowledgeable guides will keep you fully immersed in the experience. Expect to see anything from eland and giraffes to hippos, and let the magic of the bush envelop you.

  1. Embrace the dark

Not every predator comes out to play in the light of day, however. Our night drives offer you an unparalleled chance to experience the bush the way nocturnal predators do, and spot these elusive beauties slinking under the sparkling Karoo stars. With excitement around every corner and the utter stillness of a night far from the bustling city enveloping you, this heart-stopping experience is a Buffelsdrift must. And if you’ve heard that the Karoo stargazing is the best in the world, you’re right! Make sure you look up and enjoy dazzling beauties unfolding over your head.

Soothe your soul

Shake off the dust of the bush, relax, and let the magic of the Buffelsdrift Spa rejuvenate your spirit. Pamper yourself with one of our deluxe treatments as the misty foothills of the Swartberg Mountains hold you safe. Our trained and experienced staff will take care of you from start to finish, and your cares will seep away into the spa’s tranquility.

Meet iconic African mammals

It’s no secret that by far the most popular members of the Buffelsdrift team are our Elephant Trio. Hand raised after the tragic loss of their entire herd, these three gentle giants roam the reserve and are habituated to humans. While this means they can never have a full wild release, it also gives you the chance to learn more about these remarkable beings through our feeding, and walking experience. Of course, we can’t offer the same for our iconic African predators! We have had the privilege of hosting both cheetah and lion conservation programs on the reserve, helping to keep the wild populations of these remarkable predators healthy for future generations. Our free-roaming cheetah experience allows you to track these remarkable spotted cats by car and foot, while our experience guide keeps you safe. Remember, these are true wild animals, and encountering them in their natural habitat will be one of the most thrilling bush experiences you’ll ever have. Meet the King of the Bush, and another Big 5 member, through our Lion experience. Unlike our cheetahs, the lions were born in captivity, so they can only be soft released into their special bush camp. Observe these special creatures (from a safe vantage point, of course) and feel your heart leap into your throat at the majesty of these powerful predators. Take it ‘down’ a notch and enjoy a Meerkat Safari to round out the experiences. These tiny, fascinating members of the mongoose family will woo you with their charm and surprise you with their ferocity. No trip to Africa is complete without them!
